Dumpling making lesson in progress
10 August 2011 - Learning to make dumplings from a Shanghai master
Three visually handicapped clients - Kelly, See Tai and Teresa - and two volunteers attended a small dumpling making class taught by Shanghai-born Zheng Pinghua, at SAVH.
The course, which started on 10 August, comprises four weekly lessons and ends on 31 August. It is conducted on an experimental basis - hence the small class size. If successful, the course could be extended after August to new batches of students.
During the first lesson, the pupils learnt to make the skin for the dumplings. Zheng, who is a Singapore PR, is very impressed with his new students. "They are eager and receptive," he said. At the end of the lesson, the dumpling master and his students sat down to a lunch of mouthwatering home-made dumplings served with vinegar and ginger slices.
