Blind IT User Support Group

The Blind IT User Support Group aims to help IT users who are visually-impaired, to improve their IT skills and resolve problems that they may encounter with their computers. This group comprises both visually-impaired and sighted volunteers who are well verse with screenaccess software such as Window-Eyes and various IT related troubleshooting skills.

The idea of the IT User Support group was mooted by Mr Victor Tan, a visually-impaired sculptor. He found that he was able to overcome challenges that arise from using the assistive devices with help from Mr Ng Choon Hwee, another visually-impaired peer who has knowledge and experience of using such assistive technoloy. With help from his sighted family membersand Choon Hwee, he was able to use his mobile phone for reading and sending SMSes as well as other functions. To extend this further, he sought the help of sighted volunteers to learn to use his MacBook computer. With all these experiences behind him, he felt good that such support be passed on to the rest of the visually-impaired community.

You are welcome to participate in our activities, not only to rectify computer problems (related to your vision impairement) but also to share with other users your experience when using Assistive Technology in your work and leisure.
