Greetings from the White Cane Club! I am happy to tell you some of the activities we had recently.
First, Springfield Secondary School teacher Mr Teo and his students brought about 17 of our members for a hike at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve on 19 August, 2001.
It all started at a leisurely pace with everyone chatting like old friends and appreciating the fascinating variety of plants and trees at the reserve.
Midway, we came across some obstacles but we managed to climb the barricades without much difficulty. There are also narrow muddy paths, uneven ground and low branches along the way, but they are no problems for us though the students had to do a lot of hard work helping us up and down the hundreds of steps with different heights and surfaces. It was also our own determination and their patience and encouragement saw us through to the checkpoint.
Imagine having a sumptuous dinner under the stars! That was what about one hundred members and volunteers experienced at the BBQ cum Campfire on 11 August 2001.
The glowing fire lit by Wee Sin brightened up the school grounds while everyone mingled cheerfully in the warm atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Jaffar, Lynette and Wei Liang, the evening's emcees entertained us with their good humour. Participants gelled their voices together singing many familiar Campfire songs accompanied by Steven Yeo's melodious guitar strumming.
During the games, which included a mini Treasure Hunt, the participants displayed their enthusiasm. Wee Kok won the Top Prize with his amusing imitation of a Taiwanese football commentator in Hokkien.
After more than three hours of good fun, the fire slowly frizzle out but not our high spirits. We left feeling tired but happy that we had a wonderful time together.
